Gents, have electric start (30-amp no-load), fish finder, and a bilge pump nothing else. I'm installing a battery mounted fuse. Is a 40 or 50 amp fuse correct?

???You are fusing the starter? A short circuit would damage any wires in the proposed 50 Amp circuit if less than 10 ga. Surely you don't have 10 ga leading to the fishfinder & bilge pump, do you?

Battery is in the front of the boat. I have about 13' of #4 cable going to the battery. Thought it would be a good idea to fuse the main line. Bilge pump and fish finder are individually fused.

Very sensible

125 amps would be best choice i think for AWG 4, located as close to the battery as possible.

100 amps should enough but I would not go smaller. 150 amps would be the absolute maximum for 4 awg

OK, that makes sense now that we know what you are fusing.
