Gear Lube System Nipple Break

Hi,I'm stuck on a fantastic holiday weekend with no boat! I suddenly got a lube gear alarm on my 2010 5.0 MPI Mercruiser sterndrive on my 22' Sea Ray Sundeck. I had checked it before leaving the lift. I opened the cover to find the reservoir empty, I topped up the reservoir and got home to find no oil left in it and oil in the water around the stern drive, nothing in the bilge. I lifted her and traced the dripping oil leak. Looking at the drive from the stern I found a black hose had come undone from a nipple that appeared to be part of the transom collar mounting on the starboard side. I want off to West Marine got a new SS clip and tried to reconnect the hose. The nipple was very difficult to get to, set right back into the transom through fitting. I soon realized the the nipple use to be much longer and had snapped leaving only about 1/2 and inch left on the casting. The rest is broken inside the rubber hose. I have panicked a bit because it looks as though the whole cast through hull mount will have to be replaced because of a tiny nipple???????? Any advice would be appreciated.

Now that I can see the exploded diagram of the gear lube system I believe it's #1 the connector, see link. I now see that it's not part of the through transom mount but a plastic through fitting. I'm not feeling very confident however because there is no access to the inboard selection of the fitting with out the engine being removed which means the drive has to come out. All this for a cheap little plastic Walmart part??????? Does anyone have any experience with this? We did purchase the extended warranty from Searay, would this be covered? I'd like to know before I go to box with the Searay dealer. It's like pulling teeth dealing with their service department, they wouldl try and charge me for breating in their workshop if they could. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...c=OIL+RESERVOIR+COMPONENTS(SQUARE+OIL+BOTTLE) Here is a photo of the offending part.

Call your dealer and see if it is covered. The engine does not have to be removed. This is the kind of job that should be left up to a pro. Sorry, unless you have done this before you will have a difficult time with it.

If they balk at covering the part or what ever ask them to show you in writing where it says that this particular part is not covered. Be firm and express to them that there refusal sounds like a breach of contract and you want them to reconsider their refusal. Then don't threaten them but file a claim in your local small claims court. If they don't show then you win in most cases. Check w/your attorney first.
