Grinds into reverse

"I have 2005 90hp mercury 2 stroke. When going from neutral to reverse there is a grinding sound, it goes into reverse easy and is no problem once in. Some one told me this was normal but as I am new to outboards I’m not so sure. Thanks"

Some grinding noise is usually okay. Don't try to ease the unit into gear. Just throw it into gear. If you do it slowly the surfaces that have to nestle into each other can slip past each other and cause the grinding.
