Growling noise on Merc Alpha one

"Took the boat out on her madien voyage yesterday everything sounded fine while unloading and got past the wake buoys , got it up on plane and was crusing went to turn and it sounded like i had something about to come apart a vibration or a "growl" this is an alpha one outdrive 3.0lx merc anyone have any suggestions??"

Sounds like it may be the Gimbel bearing if it happens while turning(growlimg noise). If it's more of a rapid knocking/rapping sound it might be a U-joint issue. (U joints will also make noise when triming the outdrive up at idle speed)

So how hard is this bearing to change and is it better to have a mechanic do it??? i am mech inclined so i feel confident i can do it but i am not sure where that bearing is and what you have to remove to get to it
