Hoist fears

Got a fully dressed 454 on the stand ready to go back into the boat.. (aluminum intake manifold)

would you guys trust a intake mounted lift plate? Or go with a chain bolted to the heads?

the lift plate says 1000+ lbs, even with an aluminum intake. Seems sketchy to me, just curious how you guys do it..

thanks in advance!

If you fear using the intake manifold lifting plate, try a pair of these (with slightly longer bolts of course).

These bolt to the front and rear (one each opposite sides) intake manifold bolt holes.

Or something like these that would bolt to the front/rear of the cylinder heads (one each opposite sides).

There's only one way to handle engines:

I believe the heads have bolt holes machined into the ends. Use these along with the Oberg sling and you'll have a balanced engine (right to left) that you can tilt easily with a 1/2 inch ratchet or bar. The Oberg gives you micro adjustment. The crank type slings get really hard to adjust when you get them loaded up.

I have been using the same hunk of 3/8 chain for 20 odd years until I learned about the Oberg sling. Boy that thing sure makes life easier.
If you wanna borrow mine, you just pay shipping to and from.

yes, I would trust the intake lift plate if you use all 4 bolt holes and use bolts that go almost to the bottom of the holes so that you're using all the thread that you can.
