Honda 9.9 4 Stroke cooling

Hey guys new to this forum apologize if this was posted once before.

I recently bought a 2010 honda 9.9 HP 4 stroke for fairly cheap and have been trying to get it running, I noticed it wasn’t peeing any water and saw one of the lines disconnected but can’t for the life of me figure out where it even goes.

Feel kind of stupid asking such a simple question but this is my first outboard motor and am curious if I am missing any parts.

Thanks in advanced !

Also I attached a few photos to help identify

Hi,
Try running the outboard in a trashcan full of water and see see if there is a leak on the starboard side of the engine. If so, follow the leak and you will find where the hose attaches.

We just had an identical help request about this same thing. I will attach a link to that thread. He had a-heck-of- a-time finding that fitting too.

I hope it's easier for you.

Good luck.

Picture #5 should have 2 hoses coming to the discharge. One is for the carburetor drain, the other is for your telltale. On my 9.9 the clear hose is for the carburetor drain, the missing hose would be for your telltale and it is a black opaque hose. Snoop around the engine where your side cover would sit and you should find the telltale hose.

Appreciate all the help guys and that link, unfortunately I didn’t see any water seeping through anywhere when running was hoping for something

The carb seems to already have a line hooked up (Highlighted in yellow) Unless there is another one ?

It’s just odd with my research I haven’t seem to find any with a set up like this

Glad you have it sorted out. When was the impeller last changed out on that new to you engine? If you can’t answer then I would suggest you replace the entire water pump assembly more of a precaution and peace of mind. Depending upon your location and ease of getting parts at the very least I would suggest you have a water pump assembly on hand. I can almost guarantee the existing water pump will crap out when the Grandkids show up or the fish are biting. I would also suggest you get a genuine Honda service manual for your engine if you plan on doing the maintenance yourself. If you’re like me and somewhat mechanical inclined then a shop manual will help deciding if you have the tools and the confidence/ability to do any repairs down the road.
