well after only 1 year of ownership my bf 225 gave up the ghost i bought it used with under 200 hours ran great until it ingested some water on cyl# 6
spark plug was completely rusted i changed it and did a compression check freaking 80 psi on # 6 and 165 on # 3 with 160 hours the crazy thing is no corrosion issues on t stat pathways and block just ingested water and that was thatit so its a parts motor with a good lower unit and nice proptech prop if anyone is interested let me know its in Miami FL.

YES had ahigh temp a;arm and it went to limp mode turned it off waited a couple minutes and it didnt do it again went 15 miles off shore all good trolled around for an hour when i went t to go on plane she would bog out after 2200 rpm whan it was checked out boom 80 completely rusted spark plug i mean completely compression check confirmed that it was toast

That's a classic failure of the original exhaust tubes. Your motor was likely a 2006 model or earlier. Honda service bulletin #56 addressed this issue and described how to replace the original exhaust tubes with upgraded ones.

I suspect that that motor sat for a long time unused - at 200 hours it wasn't even broken in. The best thing you can do with these big Honda's is to run them often and be a stickler on maintenance. I have over 2300 hours on my 2007 BF 225 and it still runs great. The Coast Guard regularly puts 5000 to 6000 hours on these engines.
