Im having trouble removing the

Im having trouble removing the gearcase oil level inspection bolt. It doesnt break loose. Is removal in the counterclockwise rotation correct ? Its so stuck in there that the screwdriver slot on the bolt is starting to get rounded. Do you think that warming the engine up might expand the bolt hold a bit and aid in removal? Any other suggestions that might help prevent me from butchering the bolt and creating a disaster.

"JIT, I did the hit the screwdriver with the hammer thing, I also used a not so tight fitting impact bit... no budge. Little bit of penetrating oil around the head, and even warmed up the engine a bit before I tried again. Im looking for a tight fitting phillips head impact bit, or a super wide blade flat screwdriver 1/2 wide by 1/16 thick in the mean time. Not going to chance screwing it up. Hate to end up having to drill and easy out the sucker. By the way, is counterclockwise the proper turning direction for removal of the inspection bolt ? Does this happen often? Thanks.."
 
You need to use or have someon

You need to use or have someone use an IMPACT SCREWDRIVER. Your local outboard shop will have one.Save yourself from expensive mistakes.
 
Yup... gotta use the right too

Yup... gotta use the right tool for the right job. Sometimes my impatience gets the best of me. Will let you know what the outcome is. Thank you all for the helpful advice.

"My son got hold of the impact driver and lined it up straight, he instructed me to give it a rap with the hammer. I gave it a little short rap and the bolt broke free.. problem non-existent !!! I guess I couldnt get it out because I wasnt lined up right. Goes to show you, sometimes 4 hands are better than 2. Thanks for your input and comments."
