Ignition problem?

Hey folks, out at Seafair today in Seattle and the motor just up and quit. A wonderful human being in a sweet Cobalt towed me back in so we all survived.

Thought it was fuel but that’s not the case. When I crank the motor over there is throttle response and it will start (I can rev it and the motor is running while starter is engaged) but once I let go of key it will die.

I put another ignition switch in but it does the same thing.

Brand new new motor and ignition, grrrr. Any thoughts and maybe a quick fix?

Without any info as to which engine, year, model, etc,.......... I will suggest that your "start-bi-pass" circuit is providing ignition system power, and that the ignition system power is absent once out of the starter motor engagement mode.

And again, without any info as to which engine, year, model, etc....... if this engine is equipped with an electric fuel pump that requires a N/O low oil pressure switch, look towards that.

.

Re peat is at it again...

Imagen all the solutions without one fact to go on...

Absolutely F'N amazing!

And suggesting a fix that has no problem associated with it....The Crystal Head must be glowing!

Docksidemarineservices for the win!

I jumped back into the boat and found the lanyard kill switch just barely off the “Run” but not fully switched over to the “Off” position. Toggled it off then back on and it runs perfectly now.

Nice troubleshooting with with limited info. Thank you!
