This is my first post on this forum. I purchased a used 115 johnson outboard in November 2025 and have just now got it running on my old skippercraft 24' pontoon boat. The previous owner complained he didn't like how the vro pump worked and suggested we delete the vro pump and use premix. We replaced the vro pump with a vro delete pump, along with new impeller, plugs, drive shaft seals and fuel filter. The engine sounds strong on the boat under powerbut but won't rev above 2000 rpms. It is almost like it's in limp home mode but we have steady pea stream, the controls emit one beep when we start(supposedly signifing all good) and it realy sounds good up to 2000 rpm. Also, mechanically the throttle is going to full throttle when controls are pushed to full throttle. I am at a loss why we can't get full power. When you delete the vro pump, is there something you have to do to let the controls know the oil pump was deleted? I'm just guessing the controls think it's not getting oil and has the engine in a limp mode. Any help or insight is truely appreciated!
