"Howdy team,
I have a 1998 5.0L carb'd engine and I want to replace the metal spark arrestor with a K&N filter element. My question is do I need to REJET my carb? I'm asking because I replaced a stock air intake system with a K&N on my snowmobile and didn't rejet the carb. This modification lasted about 2 minutes during a full-throttle run that melted a piston due to a too-lean combustion condition.

Thanks!

"Not to mention; I don't think the K&N meets the marine requirements of a flame arrestor, does It?
I am a great fan of K&N air cleaners for bikes and road vehicles, but I am not so sure for marine use.

"K&N is fine with the CG- Mastercraft has been shipping new boats with them since at least '94 on their MFI motors. TBI still uses the aluminum one and yes, a multi-port can still backfire through the intake enough to send fire out the throttle body."

Is your snowmobile a two cycle

Is your snowmobile a two cycle engine? A lean two cycle will melt the piston. Flame arrestors have very little restrictions so the extreme little bit of money you may save on gas will probably not add up to the money you will spend on this. Just a suggestion. Jon
