Hey guys, just another issue here with my '79-'83 mercury 70hp outboard. Again, I have no serial number. manual tilt engine. So I went to hookup a new battery yesterday to see if the engine will crank. and I was about to replace the leads on the battery wires from the engine, and discovered that the cables must be original, because the insulation on the wires were cracked and split under all the electrical tape at the ends. so I figured well Im gonna have to replace those two main wires. Now, I been looking through parts catalogs, and im not seeing any kind of special battery wires for this, but in person it looks to me like it is a special battery wire, because the insulation was thick and squared like not rounded traditional wire. and it looks like it plugs into something on the motor, not sure, I need to take closer look at where and how it connects to motor. So I guess im just looking for advice or if anyone knows anything about this? I know you guys are gonna tell me to buy the manual, but I am on a budget. eventually I will. lemme know what you guys think. thank you.
