Need help What propeller fits my volvo penta

"I have a 1991 Imperial, which

"I have a 1991 Imperial, which has either N aq131, aq151, or aq171 (my manual has all 3 listed, and the boat is in storage). More importantly, it has a SP CD Trim outdrive. The current propeller size is 14r21. which I understand is a 14" size with a 21 pitch. I am looking to replace it with either an aluminum or S.S. Prop. will any prop with the size 14 xx 21 fit my boat? I see most of the volvo penta props are 14 1/4". and there are different splines, I don't know if my boat uses something unique. I want to make sure I get something that will fit. Do I need to order a new hub kit with it as well? Any suggestions where to buy from? Was hoping to get it for next weekend.

"Hi,

To see which engine you have, check the brass plate in the block above the starter. Also, if your engine has one carb it will be an AQ131; if two carbs and is not DOHC (dual overhead cam), then it is an AQ151; and if it has two carbs and is DOHC, then it is an AQ171.

I still have not had a chance to check the boat, but it definately has the SP CD Trim, so I am confident that it is either the 151 or 171.

Am I going to need the standard hub propeller or a long hub propeller? Is there a way to tell other than taking everything out and measuring?

"Michael, the long hub propell

"Michael, the long hub propellers were introduced to stand the higher torques provided by V8 engines. Chances are that you would do OK with a short hub propeller (they are rated up to 240 HP), but you will have to measure the length of the propeller shaft. There is not much to take apart, just the propeller nut, then the propeller and take one single measurement."

Also our alternator is not charging, the previous owner told us to flick a wire from the main starter lead to a pin on the back of the alternator, whereby it charges. However we feel we are bypassing a black 'resistor?' but aren't confident to make a permanent cut - Can anyone explain what this is and the proper course of action? thanks, gerry"

"I ordered a new prop, and was not able to get to my boat to see which prop I have on it. I recieved a standard hub prop, and after getting access to my boat, I discovered it uses a long hub. There is about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch extra play between my new short hub propeller and the cone at the end. Can I get away with this by putting some kind of washer in between the propeller and this cone?
