No Spark 1999 Johnson 150hp

I posted as a reply and am trying to do this right and start my own thread. I have no spark, (tested with a light between spark plug and wire on two plugs). I have checked neutral and kill switches as best I could with a meter. Based on recommendation from threads I replaced the stator this week. Cleaned the flywheel magnets, (one was partly fractured), made sure there were no corroded connections. Originally motor would start and run intermittently. Has not been dependable since purchase a year ago. After replacing the stator, engine will not even act like it wants to start. Motor RPM's while cranking: 700, needle steady. I know the neutral switch on the control box works, motor will not turn over with engine in gear. The one time I took it out, when running at full speed, motor died like turning the key off, would not start. Brought boat home, after a couple of days it cranked and ran. All through the winter, I would start the motor every two weeks, run for about fifteen minutes. It has always been a bear to get started but once warmed up, would start with less than 20 seconds of turning over. Non-ethanol since purchase, auto oiler disconnected, stabil marine always used, 1999 Johnson fast strike 150hp #XP1XMO158210, S # NC00009561. I don't know what to check next. How do I check the key switch, I have a new one here I can use to replace old one if needed.
