no spark on top cylinder

Hi, i have a johnson 15hp model number j15eeod. The engine sat up for 10 years. Still has good compression and the bottom cylinder works fine but the top one has no fire. Which is funny because when i started it up it ran fine until i put it in the water under a load and started to accelerate when it started skipping until it finally quit. I of coarse changed the plugs and cranked the engine and it was working again. A few hours later i put the boat on the water and nothing. Only the botton plug would work. From the research i have done, the components in this ignition system are a stater, 1 power pack for both cylinders, and 1 ignition coil for both as well. Which one is the likely culprit? Please help

It is 2 coils integrated in one body.
2 things to check
Ecu will have 2 wires to trigger the coils. You will have to check if triger signal comes out of CDI pack Try a tester or probe. Not sure what voltage it is the.

in case signal come out of cdi pack than one of the coils integrated in the one coil body is gone.

Switch the orange wires going to the coil.---Report the results.----One sensor coil and one charge coil under the flyweel.......-----The powerpack is the usual suspect on these.
 
yes. switching the wires would be a good way to see if it is a cdi problem or coil problem. switch the wires and see. if the problem is same than it is an coil fault. if no spark moves to the other spark plug than it is the cdi pack. do these tests without fuel on carburator.
