"Hi All,

I know very little about motors, but love fishing when I can out on my little 14 foot aluminum. Basically, I have noticed oil leaking out (lots today), but mostly oil coloured. I have explained the situation here with pictures

Any suggestions / input from those who know about this stuff would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get back on the water sooner then later.

Take Care,

Jason"

"Good news is that a leak in your crankshaft main bearing lower seal would not exit out those drain holes.

One likely leak could be the gasket around where your 'crankcase' mates to your oil pan sump, you should be able to see most of that area with the cover off.

Trouble is that *ANY* leak out of the upper area would end up draining out those holes.

Thoroughly clean and then run in a tank, to see if you can spot where the leak starts from.

If you plan to DIY, first get the Honda Shop Manual (small, three-ring binder package) as there are hidden bolts (all metric BTW) to find when you remove the crankcase. A major project, but not too complicated for a novice at all."

"Hello Pilotart,

I have an old 7 HP Honda, B75-200188(I'm not sure if the last digit is 8 or 3). Can you tell me if there is a oil filter on this engine, if so, where is it, how do I change it and where can I obtain a filter, also I would be very pleased if you could tell me where I can get hold of the Honda Shop Manual you were talking about?

John.

PS. I live in the UK."

"Not familiar with that s/n, my manual lists minor changes for s/n 1000004~1199999, 1200001~1499999, 1500001, 1600001, 1700001 and subsequent. Date of issue was August 1984 and has revisions through September 1988, I ordered it through the local Honda Outboard dealer in 1998 and cost was less than $20.

Cover (three-ring 107 page loose leaf package) is marked HONDA MARINE
____SHOP MANUAL_____BF75*BF100*BF8A
and you should be able to order online now.

No 'Oil Filter' for any engine shown in this book, there is a pickup screen in bottom of oil pan sump, access to this would require removal of your crankcase from the oil case and would be a major undertaking."

"I have bought a manual from Repairmanual.com, $36. In the UK it cost £30 plus delivery charge. Bloody robbers!

Thanks for your help.

John."
