Oil ratio for 15 hp evinrude

I just bought a 1987 15 hp evinrude outboard motor, it hasn't been used in maybe 15 years. It came with an acumix tank that mixes the oil in the top of the can. It says it mixes at 100-1, and there is a sticker on the motor next to where you connect the fuel line that also says 100-1. Is that correct? It seems like to me that it should be 50-1 or am I wrong? Either way I'll probably get rid of that can and hand mix.

The 100:1 was a board room decision to sell more motors.------But a bulletin came out to go back to 50:1 on them.-----All proof that lubrication in 2 strokes is not well understood.

Thank you very much Racerone!

You could continue to use the Accumix tank by putting 100:! mix in the tank as well as oil in the oil reservoir but by all accounts the Accumix system was pretty unreliable so the best solution is almost certainly to get an ordinary tank and pre-mix 50:!

Another neat solution would be to remove the Accumix unit and fit a blank plate with a fuel pick up incorporated in its place. That would save the cost of a new tank

Yes, Vic. I have modified these tanks exactly like that. The AccuMix is fine, but only in the "perfect world". 50:1 on most 2 stroke lubricants.
