older 9.9 tiller handle seems to be for steering only. HELP

I recently purchased an older 9.9 Mercury tiller handle electric start motor. It was used as a trolling motor on a pontoon boat. The owner had it set up with a control box. I'll be using it on a john boat, so the tiller handle will be the controls for me. The tiller handle twists, but doesn't seem to be in any way attached to the carburetor or shift controls. It only seems to have the kill button on the end and nothing else. Did they make them like this, or have parts just been removed? Also, I have no idea where the start button is. There is a wiring harness for the battery connections and another wiring harness with a round connector with about 5 or 6 holes for round pins to plug in. Can this be converted to word as a standard tiller handle with a start button somewhere? Serial number 0B390028

You need the kit to convert them electric start to a push button set up. Put up a pic of the right side of the motor. The tiller and remote setups are not the same. Are the cables in the tiller?

The only thing coming out of the tiller handle is wiring for the kill switch. Also, can you tell me the year of this motor from the serial number? I can't find anything but parts catalogs by typing in the serial number. Thanks so much for your help.

I took the tiller handle off and I see where I simply need to order cables to connect to the shift and throttle arms. Knowing the year model of this motor would be great, but can't find any info for this serial number.

You need to do a parts look up. Ebay will be your friend. It looks like all the linkages you need are not there. You will not be using that plug. What is the serial #

The tiller handle on the inside end of the shaft has grooves for cable hookups. Pretty sure I found the short cables that go from the tiller handle to the appropriate linkages, but want to know the year model to make sure I get the right ones. They seem to come in different lengths. I also found a starter button, but I can't find anywhere on my motor where it would go. Information on exactly what motor I have would be great.

Why do you have 2 posts on this motor. Ask the mods to combine them. You don't care about the year you only need the serial #

I most certainly do what to know the year of the motor. I'm sorry if I'm breaking a rule, but I have seen 3 posts about the same problem with a 70 HP evinrude. I was not aware of this being a problem.

Is there anyone on this forum with a desire to help others? This is absurd. Are you here to help others and to ask for help when you need it, or are you just the forum police? I ask for some information on one post and ask a different question in another post and you offer no help, but criticize me for what I've posted. You then tell me that I don't need the information that I'm asking for. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!?! I thought these forums were for folks who needed help and for others who are more knowledgeable to provide help. I thought we were here to help each other out and share information. I was sadly mistaken when I joined this forum.
It's all yours buddy!! I'm out of here!! This is not what I expected at all. I'm actively involved in several automotive forums that are actually places where people help other people. I thought boaters were a pretty happy bunch of folks. I hope you're not a good example of the overall attitude of folks on this forum, but I'm not sticking around to find out.
So long Flyingscott!! You can have this forum. You sir are a rude dude! It's very difficult for me to keep this "G" rated, so I'll leave before I knowingly break the rules. JERK!!

Sorry you didn't like the free advice. You were told what you needed to know. The fact you are ungrateful is funny as hell. Pay the dealer to fix your motor as it seems to much for you.
