Prop nut...lining up shaft hole with cotter groove question.

When following the Honda service procedure, my castle nut is almost hand tight after properly torqueing (sp?) and backing off to the nearest available cotter groove. Prop, thrust washers, & nut are all Honda O.E. parts. Is there a "magic" nut with off-set grooves? Or maybe a shim/washer? Thx!

There's no magic nut. It's just not supposed to be as tight as most of us would think a nut should be. That's why a "castle" nut is used in this application.

If you still feel it's "just too dang loose", you can take it up to the next cotter pin slot and put the pin in. It won't hurt anything. But, getting it too tight will cause undue wear to thrust washer and housing.
