"Boat needs a new Merc 350 MPI engine and some other repairs (water in bilge and a couple of electrical gremlins) and wanted to ship it to Regal dealer but closest one is inland in Charlotte, NC....Have thought about shipping it to MarineMax in Wilmington, NC and have them work on it, since I would have a dealer network in case of warranty issues....

Any thoughts..??.."

What's wrong w/the engine?

What's wrong w/the engine? Bilge water from torn bellows? Electrical problems can be repaired; what are yours? What drive is on it? You might consider a 383 Stroker drop-in for a bit more power in reserve.

If all it needs is another engine and bellows any reliable boat shop can do the work w/warranty. Save the shipping charges. Ask around where you are located.

"GC, engine is seized, bilge water and electrical issues are unrelated to engine....water could be coming from anyplace, deck scuppers, water inlet hose, deck plate joint...just can't find it...electrical issues are flakey windshield wiper, holding tank indicator....minor but annoying things that I can't isolate or can't get to...I'm big, got fat hands and old back....big thing is the motor...like you said, any reliable shop....key is finding a reliable shop...thanks for the reply..."

I think you may want to consider a complete 7.4L 454 with Bravo Drive.. that boat is WAY under powered and probably why the engine in there is dead.

"Give them a call. They may do it all or direct you to somebody reliable. Always ask for references. Someone will buy the other engine or take it in trade and you can refresh w/2 new or reman. engines and not have to pull the boat again a year later. Go w/full FWC engines that use antifreeze to cool the engines instead of seawater.

So a crate engine straight from chevy."

Ben:

If you are not doing the work then you will have one labor charge to transfer all the OLD parts and pay for new ones as they find them ready for replacement so you don't break down and damage the new LB.

If you buy a new complete "drop & go" engine the cost will be higher but labor less and you will have all new parts.

It's a crapshoot whereby the all new is a known cost and the parts swap to a LB is not 100% known.
