service manual discrepancy

I have a Yamaha 50 2001 and am trying to synch the carbs however all the on line information says to synch them to number 4 cyl as a baseline. However the service manual I have says to decrease the hg by ten going up to number one, ie: baseline at #4 is 50hg then #3 should be 40 then #2 30hg and so on. Does anyone have the proper settings? I am leaning toward the service manual. I know many other multi carb engines do set them equal so Im curious as to why this one doesn't. Thanks for any information to help clear this up.

Split the difference. It is a 2000 model year motor.

I would think the SM has the correct procedure for your specific model. Too many confuse carburetors on the 2000 T50 model with later carburetors. Which are different.

Having said that, try syncing the carburetors both ways. See what the performance differences are.

Thanks. Always a gamble with online opinions and manuals made for multiple applications. I set it to manuals specs and will see if it holds up to tests. Im 71 and always something new to learn about motors.

Here is a technical bulletin that indicates a slightly different way of performing the service manual procedure.

I see no other Yamaha information whereby the procedure for your specific T50 was changed to be like the procedure for later model F and T50's.
