Setting the oil pump 2004 Yam 115

2004 Yam 115 TLRC
Cousin says using too much oil when initial start up.
Any way to check the pump?

Outboards usually smoke more on cold start up.----Normal and I like to see it.-----Means that motor and recirc system is working as designed.

Not the problem, runs out of oil way too fast.
Uses way too much oil.
