Shift rod force 85hp 1989

"I had gear oil leaking out of

"I had gear oil leaking out of the wep holes on the lower unit. Dropped the lower and found the two piece shift rod,with bellows type seal, bad. It is a pressed in seal with a tie up on the shift rod. Does anyone know where I can find one or two? I hear you can buy a new plate and a one piece shift rod to repair this problem, but Id rather find the correct part. thanks"

"Brian, thanks for your post. I checked the picture, it looks like a one piece shift rod. Might be the washer type seal. I clicked on the part # 45 and it didnt give me a better view. My two piece shift rod has a coupling that joins the lower and top rod together right at the plate the water pump housing sits on. The two screw together at this point, with the coupling traveling thru-up&down- the plate. That is why they have the bellow/boot type seal.My Clymer manual doesnt even show this part. The motor must be a transition motor because it has a two piece drive shaft and shift rod. This causes me to have to look at two differant, 85hp&90hp, pages in the manuel. I think I will draw a picture and cut and paste it back here. Thanks again"

Thanks again for your help. I am slow on these computers. I have hard time searching for things. 1989- 85hp force-model856x9G - ID21595 -serial00021595. The only seal I see in the clymer manuel that is close is on page 425-25hp #26 shift bellows and page 430 40-50hp # 25 shift bellows. They do not look the same in the pictures.

"Baxtr, Thanks for the info. That looks exactly like my motors lower unit. Ill make some calls to see if it is available. The local marina told me they could not get the bellow any more. Hope they were wrong. I live on Lake Sinissippi out side of Hustisford."
