Spots stained on dip stick

Hi everyone,
I’ve just gone to check my oil level on my 2014 Honda bf60 and have noticed these spot stains on my engine oil dip stick. Starting above the oil level line as you can see in the photo.

I have not noticed this before, can anyone please point me in the direction of what may have caused this?

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't know what would have caused that on the dipstick.

A guess might be combustion gas acid

Acids will form from combustion gasses and I know that will sometimes cause "etching" on the metal surfaces in the crankcase. Primarily on the crankshaft and rod bearings. But that's only been documented on engines left sitting with old oil in them. It's one reason to do an oil change just prior.to storage.

It could be though that the finish on that dipstick is particularly sensitive for some reason. I'm not sure. I'll be following this thread to see what others have to say.

Cheers!
