Stator readings?

Hey guys i have a 86 mercury outboard... i believe stator might be bad, does anyone know the correct readings accross the correct pairs of wires? I have .... 2 yellows, blue, blue/white, red, red/white

V6 - 135 horse or higher??

If so -

Resistance tests - between Red and Blue - Rx1000 - 3500-4200 ohms, between Red/Wht and Blue/Wht - Rx1000 - 3500-4200 ohms (these are the ignition power leads)

The two yellows provide the power to charge the battery via voltage regulator - between the two yellows - Rx1 .25-.45 ohms

If you are missing spark on an entire bank (all 3 cylinders) power pack (swtich box), stator or idle stablizer.

A bad trigger can result in the loss of 1 cylinder on each bank.

Actual engine model/horsepower and a description of the problem might lead to better suggestions.

Ok then - between blue and blue/wht - Rx1000 - 6.8 to 7.6 (6800-7600 ohms)

between red and red/wht - Rx1 - 90 to 140 ohms

between yellows - Rx1 - .05 to .15 ohms

Yellows were reading continuity ,obv thats an issue? id have to check others again later today.. another reading was 550 but forget which pairs

The yellow's wouldn't stop it from running, they provide the charge/accessory power. But that could indicate that other windings in the stator are shot.

Not necessarily. Yes, it is out of spec. But there is "continuity". If the resistance was significantly/massively "higher" than spec then you would have a break, crack etc. Less resistance means that the windings are "intact" and capable of producing power.

In this case, before I dumped the money on a replacement stator (not cheap and may not be the issue) I would have it tested with a DVA meter or DVA adapter to get the DC outputs and check for spec. The stator produces AC so you need the special meter or adapter to (rectify) the AC to DC to get a correct reading. Most small engine shops will be able to do the check unless you want to go the outlay of getting an adapter yourself (Ebay/Amazon sell them).

Takea a while to start, then had it in water and idled for 5 minutes and bogged out/ shut down, wouldnt start again for another 10minutes... was thinking fuel or spark but when i remove filter and crank- i have shooting gas ... so back to stator i assume when warm its rough, pulled spark plug and small spark

If you gas shooting out of the carb throats that might indicate you have busted reeds. That could also explain your other issues.

I mean when i physically remove the hose that hits the line side of filter just before the carbs-thats when i get gas shooting out- (doesnt even get to carbs when im testing
