Stators on small engines

I am planning on adding an electric start to the 1978 35hp that I am rebuilding. I also added an electric start on my 1968 18hp Fastwin. I have a delicate back and I just cannot pull much anymore without injuring myself. I do not plan on putting a stator on the 35hp just as I did not on my Fastwin. I use an optima blue top gel battery and I can get literally hundreds of starts before the battery gets low.

I just don't see the need for the extra complexity of having a charging system on small motors such as this. I did retain the pull start on both motors for emergencies. Can anyone tell me if what I am doing is bad? I just want to make sure that I am not overlooking something.
 
So you meant that you didn't put a charging coil, not stator, on your 18. I have several elec starts 18 and 20's with no charging. Fish locators don't draw much either and a properly tuned outboard will start hundreds of times on a good quality battery. There is absolutely no problem with having an elec start w/o a charging system, especially with a rewind starter as a backup. Cheap solar chargers are an excellent alternative. Used a pontoon boat with 25 hp and no charging coil on Sunday, many starts and stops with battery staying nearly 12.6 volts throughout the fishing trip.
 
If you not running appliances you will not hurt the battery just put it on a trickle charge after each use the battery will live alot longer when fully charged.
