Im new here and i posted a couple of times about my 70 Johnson and the high idle im stuck with. Several of you good members, replied and tried to help. Whenever i posted a reply, an error message occurred. So hopefully those of you who see this. I appreciate the feedback. I must be doing something wrong. Thanks
 
Ok so on this engine when its cold it goes into advanced timing which increases the idle. At 143’ or so with that temp the timing retardes to normal idle which should be 750-850 rpms according to the manuel. Im at 1300-1600 rpms in neutral. When i slip it in gear it moves along at 900-1000 which should be more of the idle. This is all in the water on the muffs it is even more rediculous. Sorry for the wait in answering your questions gentlemen i just figured how to work this site.
 
Thermostat? Did you check it with a temp gun? Might run colder on tap water if thermostat is bad. Then em will request a faster idle. Could be temp sender too.
