Swell!

So how every boat should be insured? We got a new motor out of them after a rag blocked the intake and fired the old motor.

Specification is, at the area where just before the prop shaft meets the prop carrier seal, no more than .005" out of round.

See picture below.

1....... Remove the bearing carrier and remove the propeller shaft so that you can take it to a machine shop to be straightened.

2....... If you can see "run-out" without the aid of a dial indicator........ you need to do the above.

If this is a Merc A drive, and if the prop shaft ONLY has been affected...... stand up for yourself and your insurance company.

Why????? Because a $2,159 repair bill for a slightly bent prop shaft is far too high.

If the carrier comes out easily, the prop shaft can be removed, straightened and re-installed. The lower unit need not be removed from the upper unit.
If the shaft cannot be straightened, a new shaft is approx $300.

No shiming is required on the older A drive prop shaft R&R.

At $2,159, I think that you or your insurance company will be making someone's next mortgage payment.

When my old AQ110 powered boat was diagnosed with a previous owner shaft bend, a friend of my father who owned a machine shop straightened the prop shaft in return for lunch. If a shop has a shaft straightening machine it's a very brief job, less that an hour. Such shops are a vanishing breed.
