"I have a 14' lund with a 1986 20hp Johnson on it. I found a '79 35hp Johnson for sale and was thinking of buying it. The boat says the maximum HP rating is 35. The transon calls for a short shaft motor and I am worried that even though the boat is rated for 35hp, it might sit too low in the back with the larger engine.

I was able to find something stating the 20hp weighs 86lbs but could not find any weight ratings for the 35. Does anyone know how much it would weigh? Should I be concerned the 35 will be too heavy even though the boat is rated for it? thanks in advance."

"I have some weights from 1984/5 if that is any help.

20 hp Std shaft 45.9kg, long shaft 46.8kg
25 hp manual 45.9kg and 46.8kg
25hp electric 47.3kg and 48.2kg
35 hp manual 52.3kg and 54.1kg
35hp electric 53.2kg and 55.0kg

The weights for the 20hp are rather more than the 86lbs (39.1kg) you have found

If the boat is rated for 35hp then it should take a 35 but if the transom height calls for a standard shaft then that is what you need even though the long shaft is less than 2 kg heavier"
