"When setting the gap on the engine valves, the manual says to tighten an additional full turn.This opens the valves. I am afraid I am doing something wrong.Please help."

If you have hydraulic lifters, the valve should close when the lifter equalizes."

"Lifters MUST be full of oil "fully pumped up" and then when the engine is turned to a specific tdc then adjust till a very small amount of friction (very small) is felt. then tighten 1/2 to 3/4 turns. Turn enine to next tdc value and repeat for the rest as stated in the book.



If you adjust with no oil in the lifters then you will over tighten them.

If not sure, just adjust till slightly loose and when you get the motor started adjust while running.
Loosen till clacking is heard then adjust till it goes away, then adjust 1/4 turn at a time until 1/2 or 3/4 turns are completed and make sure to let engine recover (lifter pump back up) between turns."
