Verado 150 DTS — Fault 236 Emergency Stop with lanyard circuit showing RUN (8.5 V)
Engine: Mercury Verado 150, DTS / SmartCraft. Single engine.
Symptom: key ON shows Emergency stop activated / Fault 236. Cranking gives 5 short beeps. Engine will not start. Message does not clear after key cycles.
What I have already checked:
• Type A kill circuit (black and black/yellow). Lanyard switch itself is good: RUN = 8.5 V on black/yellow, OFF = 0 V.
• Same 8.56 V on black/yellow at both sides of the disconnected 14-pin (boat half and engine half). Not shorted to ground at the plug.
• Continuity OK: ECU → 14-pin → lanyard.
• Replaced the ignition switch. No change.
• 5 A clean-power fuse at the battery is good.
• Battery isolator OFF, key ON — DTS still wakes. Clean power appears to be on the battery side of the isolator, so the helm modules never fully power down.
• Disconnecting the battery negative for a long reset does not clear 236.
So the analog stop wire looks like RUN, but the system still reports 236 and blocks start. I am treating this as a DTS / command-module / CAN issue, not a bad lanyard.
Questions for anyone who has seen this on a 4-cyl Verado:
1. With 8.5 V on black/yellow, can 236 still be set by the helm CCM over CAN X?
2. Has relocating clean power after the battery switch plus a hard power-down cleared a sticky 236 for you?
3. Worth checking CAN X (yellow/brown) for ~60 Ω and a live 2.5 V / 3.5–1.5 V waveform before replacing the command module?
4. On CDS, how do you tell whether 236 was set by the CCM or the PCM?
Any help will be
