Hi guys, so I have a mercruiser 2.5L 120HP, 4 cylinder. It's in a 1986 campion boat according to the Vin nunber. I can't figure out what year my motor is from. The serial number is worn off. Can someone help?

Typically the transom and outdrive serial numbers are all within a few hundred numbers of each other.
Example:
7834532 may be your outdrive.
7834735 may be your transom
7834981 may be your engine.

Also if the engine is the original, there may be a metal tag rivited to engine block just above/around the starter area.

Also if engine is original it should be 1986 like the boat

Ayuh,..... There were little to no changes in the 2.5l motors, so the actual year, really don't matter,....

Thanks guys appreciate it. From what I looked online the 1986 looks older than what I have in my boat. It has the actual white label with the 2.5L on the top back of the engine. It also has the oil cap more infront of the engine, instead of the middle like other ones. Unfortnuately I can't attach an image it would make it much better.

If someone swapped out your 2.5 for an older 2.5, you'll likely never figure out the year of the engine. That said, as Bondo mentioned, it really shouldn't matter.
