what year is my mercruiser 3.0L

I just bought a 2004 bayliner as the 2nd owner. Original sales receipt lists mercruiser engine #0W028910. I bought some parts from Crowley that fit, but they say its for a 1998 engine. What year is it. It doesn't matter, just curious.

Ayuh,...... Merc motors go by serial number, not year,..... many parts don't change, year to year,.....

It is listed as 1998 and newer
