working on a messed up motor, i swore it was a 350 chev in a 1980ish bayliner
but googling says its from a ford 5.8l/351?

did volvo penta put a cap like this on a 350 or 305 chev motor?

this guy brought the boat into the marina last year by trailer, it ran and he got about 100 yards out before realizing he was sinking, got it back on the trailer, drained it out. put it back in the water. made it into his slip and it has sat for a year.
i replaced the starter, i swear its a chev starter but the guy bought it and brought it
all the wires are snapping from corrosion
carb was gummed up
and im getting 13v at the coil instead of 8v even with the starter wire disconnected

but the resistor is daisy chained to cylindrical object with two wires coming out of it, just like the resistor but a different shape
so i was looking for a wiring diagram based off the distributor to try and see what the heck the cylinder is
but now im wondering what this distributor is from

Top dead center rotor is pointing at cylinder 8 but its number 1 on the cap. Im used to pointing the rotor at cylinder 1 tdc. Have a new cap and wires in the boat so going to try them out and found another resistor in the shop

Doesn't matter where the rotor is pointing to on another part of the motor, it only matters that it points at number 1 post on the distributor cap when number 1 cylinder is at TDC

If it's a chevy then firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

the cap had a firing order of 12736845 on it but ya I did the chev order deleted that cylinder thing from the resistor and the coil he gave me was a msd blaster antivibration marine coil, only 0.7 ohms so I tossed it and grabbed a spare 1.5 ohm from my boat and got it running, oils milky so have to do a couple oil flushes now. Compression is fine 6&8 were 110, #1 was 120 and the rest were 115. His shifter hose looks like it will crumble if you touch it
