yamaha 40 horse over heating

I replaced the water pump in my new to me 2009 40 fla 4 stroke. Iv'e done them before and never have had a problem. I'm still not getting a stream and over heat alarm comes on. Just recieved a new thermostat and will see how that goes. Could it be something else? Thanks in advance

Hi.

If you're not getting a stream, a new thermostat won't fix it. You should get a stream regardless of whether the thermostat is open or not.

Maybe the woodruff key wasn't installed properly or the outlet hole isn't lined up with the water passage. Whatever it is, I would say you need to drop the lower unit again and open up the water pump housing again.
 
replaced a small rubber collet that goes under a white plastic guide that the feed tube to the motor slides in. All is well
