Thoughts on this boat/johnson 15hp for $800

Going to inspect this boat tomorrow and potentially purchase. I’m still a beginner boater and would appreciate some opinions. To me, this seems like a very good deal, when comparing to all other boats and outboards I’ve seen in the past month or so.

I will run the engine and compression test it with a rented cylinder compression tester from Oreilley auto parts.

It's an old Glaspar that originally had a windshield, remote controls and probably 30hp.
It's going to be heavy & slow.

The whole rig... You get what you pay for. The boat is from the early 1960's, carpet over plywood floor, plywood boxes, will have rot in floor and transom, motor looks like 1977 model,, can't tell about the trailer, and it will be slow as a brick.

Sounds smart! Check compression (should be even across cylinders, ~100–120+ psi), look for corrosion, leaks, and test shifting in/out of gear. If it runs smooth and price is fair could be a great buy.

I ended up purchasing a 1966 bell boy with a 60hp. Doing the full restoration now. You can see links In my more recent posts. It’s been good clean fun. Got it started for the first time a couple nights ago
