    VP 290A Engine Exhaust Hose

Hope everyone is well. I'm still slinging the 81 Century around, and I need some 90mm exhaust hose. Anyone have a decently priced source? I'd like to buy a few ft of it, and make it a bit longer than the original spec. I seem to only find pre cut pieces and corrugated. Thank you.

    AQ280 PT Upper Gear Housing

Drive: AQ280 PT Engine: Volvo Penta AQ290A (GM V8) Last year when I had the engine out to replace both PDS bearings, I had my upper gear housing off the drive to work on bearing crosses and examine internals. Two things I noted, some of the shims had corrosion, namely the ones between the...

    290A V8 Engine Rattle

Hey all. Everything has been going well since the engine pull and PDS bearings replacement. I thank you all for the wealth of info. I've noticed what sounds like a box of nails turned end over end or a chain rattle from idle to about 2500 rpm. At approximately 2500 rpm, the sound IMMEDIATELY...

280 Outdrive lower to intermediate housings bolts?

Just getting ready to water test my repairs, and I found that one of the Allan head bolts is missing that connects the lower to intermediate housings. This one is located on the port side, closest to the transom. Hard to see because you have to look at the lower housing from underneath. I just...

    Aq280PT and 290A V8 PDS bearings/u joints.

So I'm back at it today, checking engine alignment after we bolted everything up. I did not touch the six clamping bolts yet. On each alignment tab, they are equally distant, or pretty close, but the engine is rotated to port just slightly, probably less than 1/4" . Loosen the clamping bolts...

    Aq280PT and 290A V8 PDS bearings/u joints.

Update! Found a friend of a friend with a rolling hoist in a shop. Got the engine out, PDS replaced per instructions, and got everything back in. Greased before placing the forward seal, and I glued that seal in. The previous seal had blown out and was hanging over the PDS, the aft PDS bearing...

Source on aq290a engine exhaust Riser gaskets

Anyone have a good source for the foil VP gaskets, part number 857618 ? I received some OEM ones from another outfit, and they arrived cracked and bent in several places. Don't think I can use them without a bunch of permatex. Thanks.

    Aq280PT and 290A V8 PDS bearings/u joints.

Welp, I screwed up. Bellows were replaced last year. U joints done by previous owner maybe 2 years ago. I ran the engine with the outdrive too high. There's a two inch gash in the u joint bellows at the 12 o clock position. I'm guessing from contact with the spinning assembly. I was on the...

    Oil Pressure

Part number 35 on the diagram. I'd pull it and put an oil pressure tester on the port, see what you get compared to the gauge.

VP 280 PT Trim Sender Wire to outdrive...where does it go?

Hate to start a thread for it, but I've poured over Google photos and can't find anywhere that indicates where the wire that hangs down behind the steering helmet actually hooks up for the trim indicator. For reference, wire hanging under part number 104

VP 280 PT Trim Motor Problems

I have everything installed, and wired in. If anyone uses this replacement motor/reservior, make sure to pre tap the screw holes into the housing, it's easy to crack the plastic if the screw is too big.

VP 280 PT Trim Motor Problems

Hey all! Over the months I've been able to get a lot of stuff reworked on my 280 with power trim. Cheers to Ricardo with all of his knowledge. I'm stuck with a bad trim motor, its original to the package and has what looks like a prestolite motor, that has an open cap at one end, where the...

    Volvo Penta AQ290A Engine Electrical

So far so good on the 81 Century 4000...except. My dumb self decided to reverse the polarity on one of my two batteries completely by accident (negligence). Everything worked well until I was working on some new lighting, and couldn't figure out what was wrong with the trim motor. I switched...
