You might go to Napa Auto Parts, AutoZone, any local parts store and ask them about the "Borrow a Tool" program.
My compression tester was reading 90psi.
I borrowed one from a couple stores and I got 120 with theirs.

I was suggested to put your hand in front of the carburetors and see if gas is spitting back at you.

Another suggestion was to take them out and see if you can see light between the fins and the surface they rest against.
One thing I try to do is take lots of pictures before and as I take things apart. I try to do it before I make any adjustments also.

It has saved me many times.
If you can get a picture of where you are having the issue might help ones visualize your issue.
