    Are there no plugs in the cylinder head into which a sensor can be screwed? An alternative is to mount the sensor on the cylinder head so that water temperature is read but somewhat indirectly.

    The nut is usually loosened as needed to adjust the terminal end fitting. After the fitting is set to get the correct distance the nut is turned down to lock the fitting into place. Do you have the Yamaha service manual that depicts how to make the adjustment?

    The nut that locks the clip into position. Have you owned the motor since new? Many many many think that it is better to over oil than to oil correctly. Would not surprise me if a backyardigan did something to get the motor to over oil.

    Cranking is the crankshaft turning due to either a starter motor or a pull cord. If the motor cranks (crankshaft turning) but won't start that is something completely different. Cranks. Or won't. Starts (or won't). May start but not continue to run.

    Most definitely a short shaft model. Inches stated for most models are "nominal". Not actual lengths.

    You know what they say about assumptions. Over temperature event or low oil in the engine mounted main oil tank will sound the alarm. And put the motor into RPM reduction mode. RPM is then more or less 2000. If pumping the primer ball will keep the motor running normally that is a pretty clear...
