1973 Evinrude Norseman 40HP No Spark

And OMC has (P/N 378103) a puller kit, spendy but very handy even on non OMC applications. Probably not practical to buy for a 1 time use. Bolts have shoulders. Tighten until just snug then use center bolt. Long rod in back fits in a hole in the disc as a handle to stop it from rotating.

Obviously a cheap puller. If the bolts threaded in finger tight, it will come out with just a little persuasion. A left hand drill bit & an EZ Out maybe.

    What Generation Alpha

I put the S/N in the search for parts catalog & that is what it showed. Regardless, 88 boat is Alpha. He has the correct kit coming.

    What Generation Alpha

Post #2 was taken directly from the search by S/N. Mercruiser was so kind as to lump all 3 drives together. Need to see the top of the driveshaft to determine what is inside.

    What Generation Alpha

Mercruiser (R / Mr Alpha One Sterndrive) Engine Components That is what the book says. There was a brief period of time where a "R" unit was built. It's guts were like that of the '82 & earlier but externally it looked like an "MR"/Alpha gen1. What year is the boat?

    EMM Cooling

Water pump or plugged up. T-stat has nothing to do with it.

Volvo Penta AQ171 Bogs at Higher RPM

I'm thinking 6 cyl dual carb engine. Start at the fuel tank, check the anti-syphon valve, hoses, filters & pump. I doubt it's ignition.

2006, is that a 2 stroke or Suzuki based 4 stroke?

Correct. I do not know the size specs for the hole, sorry. You could buy a new tolerance ring & give it a try.

Go back to post #11 above. Your bearing comes out of box as an assembly. You state the tolerance ring was lined up with the hole. So you are aware how easily it goes on & off. But should not be reused. The tolerance ring helps keep the aluminum housing in place in the transom plate. The factory...

Early Mercruiser bearing. I post this as it shows the curved outer race to help you visualize what your similar but slightly larger outer diameter bearing looks like when removed from the aluminum carrier. Early bearing nylon carrier below. This is where you have the aluminum carrier.

Ok, I'm old & started working on a 1968 Mercruiser model in 1979. FYI, 60s & early 70s Mercruiser bearings were different, used a nylon housing, brass shims & a snap ring. I'll find a picture.....

Tolerance ring clearly seen in this picture. Fits loosely between the 2 shoulders of the aluminum housing. It is part of the bearing assy & available separately. Mercury P/N 61075. You found an old NLA bearing, was it missing?
