Lithium battery on an old motor

I would be concerned about the charging current & voltage of that old technology engine being clean enough (as in true clean DC) & regulated close enough to not ruin those batteries. Old fashioned lead acid battery was much more forgiving.

    Trying to identify 2000 Johnson/Suzuki 50 HP (J50PLSIB)

It's a 2 stroke. The remote tank is the VRO tank. I hope you have been putting TCW3 oil in it all these years. Here is the link for parts: https://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=2001&hp=50&model=J50PLSIF

    tilt/trim problems

It is a 2 wire pump. So, it does NOT operate by 12v + to 1 wire (either wire) and assume it grounds thru the motor frame. It DOES operate by 12v + to 1 lead and 12v - to the other. Basically, positive to blue, neg to green goes up and reversing the wires goes down. This reversal of current takes...

    1971 Larson GM 250 Inline 6 165 HP

I imported this from his Mercury outboard thread: "1977 silverline 17ft . Wants to stay at 153 degrees @crusing speed 3000 to 4000 rpm, idel reaches 195 . Changed impeller thermostat engine only has 35 hours , took hose off stat housing only pushing 2” of water at idle, put 2nd hose on stat...

    1971 Larson GM 250 Inline 6 165 HP

Read, reread & consider if you are being clear. If we can't 100% understand the question we can't necessarily give a good answer. If after you submit a post you decide it needs to be edited, you have 5 minutes to click edit & fix it. BTW, 1st post or not, good grammar is always nice & helpful.

    Exhaust shutters

Beyond double checking the parts book for correct application I can't answer that.

    Exhaust shutters

Presumably they will sag. Their purpose is to stop a water surge in the event of engine stalling at high RPM and the possibility it could roll backwards.

    Aluminum Intakes

You are jumping in 13 years later. The issue is dissimilar corrosion between the mating points to the head & t-stat housing. Show me cast iron bolted anywhere on an outboard & particularly directly to the engine block. It appears to me the original poster had an aluminum manifold laying around &...

    Shift Shaft Lever Removal

Are you talking about the vertical shaft that passes thru the exhaust cavity? If yes, heat would have helped but it's too late now. Cut the thing in half within the exhaust passage, slide the top up & the bottom down. You'll need shaft #25, lever #29 washer #30 & set screw #31.

    1971 Larson GM 250 Inline 6 165 HP

Copied from your post #12 above: Ran fine last year I put in new impeller no water so shop put in new impeller have a strong mechanical background... You put in a new water pump, then no water so a shop put in a new water pump? And you say you have a strong mechanical background? FYI, the...

Alpha one gen 2 tapping at hard turning angle

Same u-joints. Tilt or turn doesn't matter, same forces of misalignment are on u-joints & gimbal bearing.

    1971 Larson GM 250 Inline 6 165 HP

Fresh or salt water? Salt water is probably a corroded manifold & riser. The manifold with the removable top portion went away with early 1970 160 hp models. All 165 models had the 1 piece manifold.(assuming some DIYer didn't retrofit an earlier manifilold). You replaced the water pump...

    Mercruser outdrive

Your question lacks any detail. 1960s, 1980s, 2000s vintage? Mercruiser Model 0, #1, #2, #3, TR, TRS, Alpha, Bravo? If you are familiar, by looking at it (although the R/MR/Alpha gen 1 can deceive). Serial number?

    Question for Kevinj & Racer

Regarding low oil alarm, apparently the oil quantity was lower than I was lead to believe (I never checked for myself) thus setting off alarm. Topped off tank & all alarms silenced. But why was it constant with engine off? IDK Factory manual does not say. BUT.... It does say to test vacuum...

    Question for Kevinj & Racer

So follow-up/resolution: Replaced VRO & vapor pump. Oil useage & smoke decreased but still get high vacuum alarm & surging at higher RPM. Since replacing VRO requires running off premix during alarm testing, purging oil lines & verifying oil pump funtion I was running off a 6 gallon tank thus...
