    I have a 1989 25hp Johnson outboard, and it’s having trouble staying at low idle. No matter what throttle I’m at every few seconds there’s a thump noise and the motor jerks, and it drops and then regains rpms, but at lower idle it just dies after one of the jerks.     Sorry if I do misunderstand. I did gap them, I read the repair manual, found the gap, and respaced them. Sorry I didn’t remember what measurement it was.

    Sorry I said this wrong. I said the spark plugs were spaced correctly, but what I meant is that yes, they are gapped at 3/8”.

    It ran great, perfect healthy idle, but seemed a little high, reved high and was able to drop back down. I never really attempted to get the primer bulb hard, could that be a component?     I did a compression test and replaced the spark plugs, but it did nothing. Could it be clogged fuel lines?
