    KG-7 piston rings

Racer, yes, I too did see the ones at Outboard Paradise. They state the OEM Mercury are no longer available, and what they have now are Hastings. I had already searched Hastings site and saw that they had 2.44 diameter rings, at 1.5 mm thickness. I wasn't able to find the I.D. size of those...

    KG-7 piston rings

OK, this is probably a long shot, but does anyone have an idea where I might find any rings for a Super 10, KG-7? I picked up this engine and it was locked up. Let the powerhead soak in diesel/kroil/atf for several days. Finally got the cylinder half off the of the crankcase half. Rings were...

parts needed for CD-11 5.5 hp

Fitz, and Tim, thanks for sharing your wisdom. I probably will resort to getting in touch with you Fitz, for a part or two. I put new plug wires on. cleaned and set the points and coils/flywheel. Spark jumps bright blue at 5/16" on the tester I made. I've got a 7 yr old grandson that is hanging...

parts needed for CD-11 5.5 hp

Thanks Tim. Fresh water for me too. I have not bought any seals for outboards in years, just figured that replacements from a marine shop would be bronze or stainless if thats what original was. Wishful thinking

parts needed for CD-11 5.5 hp

Timguy, have you been able to find them with brass or stainless bodies? I would assume steel bodies would rust away rather quickly as thin as they are.

    setting coil to flywheel gap

I have set the coils by the method that Joe Reeves suggested if one doesn't have the OEM style setting ring. I do have good spark to both cyls. My quest for machining a ring is just a symptom of being a toolmaker for 40 plus years. I've been told I'm suffering OCD more than a time or two. Thanks...

    setting coil to flywheel gap

I know there is a tool/ring used to set the gap, and I have read "the Joe Reeves" method, which I could do. However, being a recently retired toolmaker, and with a lathe, mill, etc at my home shop I would like to machine a ring to use. Does anyone have one of those rings? I'd like a measurement...

parts needed for CD-11 5.5 hp

Racerone, I did look at their catalogue after your suggestion. Contacting their retailers has led to a dead end. All of them stating obsolete. I did find one in Sweden....ouch on the shipping. I will go with Droid's suggestion and buy all the parts individually. That in itself roughly doubles...

parts needed for CD-11 5.5 hp

Can anyone suggest a source for the gear case seal kit? It's Sierra part number 18-2679, best I can tell, but this site shows it as being obsolete. Any idea where I might find one? I hope I don't wear you guys out asking questions. I'm new to this old old outboard stuff, and within the last 2...

    1954 CD-11 5.5hp help

The mechanical seal on the pumps that are on my geothermal HVAC system are very similer. That's probably a testament to the design, as they've been trouble free for over 3 decades. I'd guess that s over 100,000 hours run time.

    1954 CD-11 5.5hp help

Thank you Fitz. That's one issue resolved. Evidently, this engine has been apart enough over the years that it has several misplaced parts, wrong parts, and ''shade tree'' repairs. It has a broken detent spring in the lower unit...the one that puts tension on the shift rod. It had the washer...

    1954 CD-11 5.5hp help

A friend gave me this old engine recently, and it'll be my winter project. Someone in the past has worked on it and reassembled it incorrectly. There are 4 springs that damped the vibration between the transom mount and the rest of the engine. There are 2 different springs, as noted in the parts...

50hp vro2 bypassed and need fuel pump info

Hey guys, I'm at Ky Lake trying to catch some crappie. First time out with this boat, which has a 1989 50 Johnson. The vro2 was bypassed prior to me acquiring the boat. Engine ran fine in a barrel of water, but not so well now. It will starve for fuel if I try to run much above idle, but will...
