    454 Fuel Pump/Pressures

1st, I WOULD NOT buy any Amazon/Chineesium fuel parts. Buy OEM. OEM will be the correct pressure. 2nd, you have a perfectly good engine 3 feet away. You can certainly swap parts 1 at a time until you find the bad 1.

    Losing power when turning right

Is it EFI? If so, then perhaps fuel sloshing in the vapor separator unit? An issue in there maybe. Dirt/bad float/bad inlet needle. Did you ever replace the water seperating fuel filter? Is it near full of water & allowing some to pass & again the sloshing to shift water to where it goes to the...

    Mercury outboard serial number

Ops, sorry I lied that impeller is 1 size smaller than I said earlier but still fit a good 20 years of mid size engines.

    Mercury outboard serial number

Mercury does have water pump kits but they weren't shown on the old parts diagrams. By the way, that same impeller fits Mercruiser 1 from 1963 thru Alpha gen 1 (1990), and most 65hp thru inline 6 outboards. So it will be available long after we are gone.

Tachometer stays at 0 RPM or jumps to max while engine is running

Back to the subject of pulse setting switch on the tach: In the early days (mid 70s & earlier), you bought a tach for the particular engine size you were working on. Later the "one size fits all" tach came to be. Per OMC your tach needs to be on #3. I DO NOT KNOW IF #3 IS CORRECT ACROSS THE THE...

96' Johnson 150 Fast Strike fuel in engine compartment / Vacuum lines disconnected

There are 2 vapor lines that go to the silencer. But for some reason the vapor pump is removed from the vapor separator housing & left dangling. So I can only assume the port on the housing is wide open as well.

Considering DIY rebuild on 5.7 2bbl Mercruiser - thoughts?

If you have the skills & tools to remove it, then get started & get it out of the hole. No cost just time involved to get that far.

96' Johnson 150 Fast Strike fuel in engine compartment / Vacuum lines disconnected

Why is the vapor pump sitting loose in the 3rd picture?

Tachometer stays at 0 RPM or jumps to max while engine is running

You are correct, orange is alternator output. The 2 wire connector (red & red/purple) go to the internal regulator. Regarding the gray tach lead: The OMC manual shows the gray lead going from the coil neg to the shift assist module but fails to show how it also gets to the main engine plug. Yet...

    Mercury outboard serial number

380XXXX is about 1974. Since you failed to tell us the HP, we are at a stand still. Go to Mercury parts Go to Correct HP Then see if your serial number range is listed. Some HPs have more than 1 listing, so if your serial number isn't listed, go up or down 1 listing.

    1987 evinrude 140 E140tlcua

The spark advance is by the timer base rotating as the throttle is advanced. Either it works or it doesn't as far as producing spark. When it sparks (as in timing) is mechanical linkage.

Tachometer stays at 0 RPM or jumps to max while engine is running

Ok, I can easily assume your Chinesium tachs are junk BUT you say the original tach is inop as well. Highly unlikely all 3 are junk. Let's start with the basics: Tach needs 12V pos (most likely purple at the dash panel), 12V neg & a signal wire from the coil (typically gray). It sounds as if...
