2011 Mercury 40hp Bigfoot serial number 1C170233

This one is kind of tough as it is good serial number but it's just a bit to new of a year model for this website {and a few others) to fully pick it up an automated search and seems to be missing one serial number range that's possibly a bit newer than what we can find on a self-search "here".

In this case 'have to be careful with what impeller or impeller kit/s you choose as there are a few (3?) options part number wise seemingly between what gear housing and more importantly here what gear ratio the engine in question has as it appears in all cases that Big-Foot isn't being called out in the general headlines of the parts diagram but can in some cases be seen in the parts detail descriptions of fitments that I've seen thus far < but it started to be confusing too depending on where one looks....Can't blame the OP for asking for additional help with this one honestly.

Had someone else tell me depends on my gear ratio. Not sure how to find that out.
 
If you don’t see a sticker on the outside of the general area of the lower housing that looks somewhat similar to the images of the following linked gear ratio stickers then it might be easier to call or email Mercury customer service with your serial number and see if they’ll let you know what the ratio is as they do tend to get back to you within a few days.…,

I am guessing that big foot denotes a motor with a higher gear ratio.

Easy enough to confirm the gear ratio.
