"Hello, would anyone be able to help me with some specs on this motor? My local shops are useless.
I would like to know the Idle Rpm and top speed Rpm. Also, the low speed mixture screw preset would be nice to know as well. Model Number I do believe is RDS-28b...I think. The ol' girl is older than me!! they never taught us much about the old tech when I went to college. LOL Is nice to have you "old" techs to glean some knowledge from. I got the motor running pretty good but having this info would give me a better idea of whether she is giving it all she has or if I can squeeze a little more outta her....safely."

"I believe the motor will let you know when it's happy. I dont know how you would read the rpms? I have some older motors and most of the time. they will give it all they got, if I ask - but I respect their age and give them a break and if they go fast enough to blow my hat off - i'm happy. Idle speed? I like them to run smooth at slow speed and still be able to maneuver the boat."
 
I have a Digital Tachometer. y

I have a Digital Tachometer. you just put it near the plug wire and it picks up the frequency and gives you a read out. Ya it goes fast enough to blow my hat off. I like having the Rev specs cuz then I can set things up exactly!!! I am finicky that way. I always run her about 1000rpm below what she tops out at. I want the Idle speed cuz I I want to make sure she is idling as low as it is supposed to. I was hoping to troll with it but i am pretty sure it is a bit big of a motor for that. All the linkages on the engine are quite worn and I had to make lots of adjustments to try and remove the play. She sure is a good ol' girl tho. just wish I had all the parts for the automatic choke. Has only manual now. She has 125 psi on each Cyl. I couldn't pull the old girl over to start if my life depended on it!!! thank goodness for electric start. Oh one more question... Did that motor come with a charging/lighting coil? wiring has been kinda hacked up.

I swear to god that every time I go out on the water she just runs better each time. She Idles better than ever now. I can even troll!! It gets up on plane really nice and I can back off on the throttle quite a bit and she still sits up on plane moving along nicely. I have not fiddled with it or anything...just decided to work better. To heck with specs!! It ain't broke so I ain't fixin' it.
