Mercury 150 2 stroke

Question I put this engine a 6 cylinder mercury 150 hp on a sea swirl boat that came rigged with a v4 omc engine. I wired the mercury to the dashboard and the tachometer is working. Now the motor will not idle below 1000 rpm’s according to the tachometer there are no switches on back of tachometer for different cylinders , could this tachometer be no good for this engine?

On a 2 Stoke, the switch on a tach is for the # of poles in the stator, not the # of cylinders.
That bring said, if you see no switch then I must assume it's correct for an OMC which if I recall is 6P (or 6 poles).
I don't know what that Mercury is, but if 5P, then your tach will read fast.

Thank you, I started the motor for the first time today is a barrel and the bottom carb had gas running out of it. (Brought it rebuilt carbs look very clean) I tapped the carb thinking a stuck float and it stop running gas out of the throat. But the motor won’t idle down low it stalls when you rev it it runs strong no miss or sputter. So I checked for carb roller cam lining up on mark with throddle cable off and it lines up. Not sure on what the problem could be.

You had better check spark & compression. If good, proceed by running it & see which cylinder or cylinders it isn't idling on by pulling 1 plug wire at a time & listen for RPM drop.
