Mercury 50HP Electric issue

Had a couple wires melted on harness # 84-850220 A1 (see attached picture). Two yellow wires have no identification markings. Any idea of where the wires attach to?

Well since the pictures are poor close ups & we have no idea what engine you are working on.....?

From the harness pictures I'd have to guess it's an early 50 4 stroke.

Typically yellow is stator output to the voltage regulator or rectifier.
 
Agree on yellow being battery charging. For some reason, these connections tend to absorb moisture and corrode even though they are encapsulated....to a point. Corrosion in connections represents a resistance to current flow and with current flowing through it generates heat. Heat melts the plastic.

If the charging circuit still works, either disassemble the connections and clean away the corrosion, or replace them. You're not the first person to report this problem on this site, or others.
