    Shift Rod Adjustment

I'm not sure you understood my question. When the shifter/shift rod was working correctly, as soon as I moved the control handle forward from the neutral position, the boat would go into forward gear, which I am guessing was about an 1/2" movement of the control handle from the neutral position...

    Shift Rod Adjustment

Thank you Racerone, I will give that a try. I do have a question. When I put the control in forward, how far do I move the control handle forward from the neutral position before I adjust the cable?

    Shift Rod Adjustment

Hello All, I recently rebuilt the lower gear unit on my 1983 Johnson 115 HP V4 motor. The shift rod was removed by a boat shop, so I was don't know for sure what the measurement was from the shift rod eyelet to the base of the gear unit housing before the shift rod was removed. I do not have a...

    Clutch Dog Position

OK, thanks. Another question I have. I replaced the pinion bearing. As far as I can tell, I put the new bearing right where the old bearing was in the driveshaft channel. I can't tell if the retaining screw is making contact with the new pinion bearing. Should it be?

    Clutch Dog Position

OK, thank you very much for the information. I wonder why they include it with the kit? Everything else in the kit is for the lower gearcase.

    Clutch Dog Position

Hello all, I am rebuilding my lower gear unit on my 1983 Johnson 115 HP V4 and I ordered seal kit, part number 18-2692 from Marine Engine. I cannot figure out where the O-ring, part number 322598 goes that came in the kit. Does anyone know where it goes? Thanks, Richard

    Clutch Dog Position

I did replace the bearing above the pinion gear. The bottom of the driveshaft looks good. I also have a seal kit. I will have to guess at the shift rod dimension because the boat repair shop, I took it to removed it and didn't reinstall it, so I don't know what its dimension was. I read...

    Clutch Dog Position

Hello Racerone, I went to take pictures of the new clutch dog, and I found some writing on it showing which end goes towards the propeller. Sorry for not seeing that earlier but thank you for your willingness to help me. Thanks, Richard
